Drunk Driving - DUI
Drunk Driving – Drunk Driving known also as Driving while Intoxicated or driving under the influence of alcohol with a BAC of 0.08 % or greater is a crime. The best way to avoid a DUI is to not drink and drive even if you've had one drink and are not impaired. If an officer pulls you over and smells alcohol, chances are that you are going to get arrested.
Officers look for several things in your driving to indicate that you have had too much to drink. These include weaving in your lane, speeding or driving below the speed limit, wide turns, failing to use your turn signal when required, no headlights when required, braking erratically, following too closely or traveling in the wrong lane.
Once an officer has stopped you they are going to be looking for other indicators that you are intoxicated including, slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, the odor of alcohol, overly emotional, difficultly producing any requested documents such as your driver’s license and registration, stumbling, difficulty standing unassisted. The officer will ask you to perform a variety of tests on scene to see if you are impaired. This may include an eye test, a walk and turn test, and a one legged stand test. |
